Diana Newlands – Church Secretary
Diana Newlands is a Founder Member of the church and currently responsible for booking our preachers and for publicity. She is Woodford born and bred: educated at Woodford Prep and Woodford High School and the Royal College of Music before graduating with an Honours degree in English Language and Literature. She has worked as a teacher, an A level English examiner, an accompanist, and for the past thirty years or so as an interviewer. Her husband, Alastair, was the first secretary of the church. Now widowed, Diana is one of a large extended family, including a son and daughter, both married, and four grandchildren under 7. She is happy to be known as an Ecumaniac.
Revd John Edwards
Revd John Edwards retired as minister of the United Reformed Churches in Wanstead and Gants Hill in 2005. He is a widower with three adult children and five grandchildren, (who keep him busy).
John is honorary pastoral minister of the Ecumenical Church and leads worship at the church from time to time.
Angela Tervet was born and brought up in Woodford and attended Woodford County High School and the South West Essex Technical College and School of Art where she studied Business Studies and followed a Professional Secretarial Course. She spent a large proportion of her working life in the merchant shipping industry in office admin and personnel. In the early 60s she had a break from office life for a couple of years and worked for The Ockenden Venture as an Assistant House Mother to 20 or so boys from Displaced :Persons Camps in Germany. She has helped to run a Brownie Pack and had been heavily involved in church youth work. Now retired, Angela has more time for travel both at home and abroad, plays tennis several times a week, organises trips and visits for her local NADFAS, is a member of the U3A, goes to several classes and, of course, is kept busy with all her church work.
Fiona Brooke is a founder member of the church and currently a church Servant. She is WWEC’s liaison person with the Salmon Youth Centre, Bermondsey (formerly the Cambridge University Mission), a charity which the church has supported for many years. She also enjoys working as a volunteer at the Christian Drama Resource Centre in Loughton, Essex, an ecumenical organisation serving schools, churches and community groups.
Fiona was born in Woodford and by chance returned full circle to this area in 1971 having lived in earlier years in Shropshire, North then South Staffordshire, Yorkshire, Edinburgh, County Durham and later, Hong Kong.
